Tullow Oil Resumes Drilling Operations At Jubilee Field In Ghana, Signaling Economic Revival

Tullow Oil has announced the commencement of a new drilling campaign at the Jubilee Field, a cornerstone of Ghana’s offshore oil production.

The initiative, which officially began in May 2025, is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the country’s oil output and operational capabilities over the next two years, signaling renewed optimism for the sector.

The campaign follows Tullow’s successful completion of a four-year drilling program that concluded in December 2024.

This previous initiative delivered 18 wells—six months ahead of schedule and under budget—demonstrating Tullow’s commitment to efficient operations.

Jean-Médard Madama, Managing Director of Tullow Ghana, highlighted the importance of this development.

“The restart of drilling operations is a testament to our confidence in Ghana’s rich resource base and the Jubilee Field’s potential to generate value for our shareholders and the local communities,” he remarked.

To prepare for the new drilling phase, Tullow conducted a thorough 16-day maintenance program at the Jubilee Field.

The company also enhanced its water injection capacity to 300,000 barrels per day, which is crucial for maintaining stable production levels as they ramp up operations.

This revitalization comes after resolving a $320 million tax dispute with the Ghanaian government, signaling a positive shift in the investment climate and further encouraging foreign investment in the country’s oil sector.

As Tullow Oil embarks on this ambitious drilling campaign, industry experts and local stakeholders are optimistic about its potential impact on job creation and economic growth in Ghana.
