Tobinco Supports Ghana Health Service To Fight Cholera & Meningitis Outbreak

The Republic of Ghana is facing a growing public health crisis as cases of cholera and cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) continue to rise across the country.

Recent statistics from the Ghana Health Service (GHS) indicates a sharp increase in infections, raising concerns about the strain on the country’s healthcare system.

In response to this emergency, Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited has stepped forward with a significant donation of pharmaceutical products to aid in the fight against the outbreaks.

The donation, valued at GHS 250,000, includes essential medications and hygiene products such as Lufart, Entramol, Omal Hand Sanitizer, AMOCEF, and other critical treatments needed for managing infections and symptoms.

The donation was made directly to the GHS to ensure swift distribution to affected regions.

In a brief engagement with the media, Dr. Christopher Mensah, Managing Director of Tobinco Pharmaceuticals, emphasized the company’s commitment to national health,

“In a time like this, where the whole country is challenged with outbreaks of CSM and cholera, our Group CEO, Dr. Samuel Amon Tobin—who also serves as the President of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Ghana—saw the need to step up and support through the right agency, the Ghana Health Service.

During the COVID-19 period, cholera cases were almost nonexistent due to hand hygiene measures. We believe prioritizing sanitation once again will help curb this outbreak.”

Dr. Mensah highlighted that the donated products include hand sanitizers, antibiotics, pain relievers, rehydration therapies, and injections essential for managing the conditions.

Receiving the donation, Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and assured the public of immediate action.

“We appreciate this generous support from Tobinco Pharmaceuticals. Once received, these medications and supplies will be promptly distributed to affected regions. We are all in this together, and we hope others will also come forward to contribute.”

The donation comes at a critical time, as the rising cases of cholera and meningitis threaten public health.

Experts warn that poor sanitation, contaminated water sources, and seasonal weather conditions are key drivers of the outbreaks.

The GHS is urging citizens to observe strict hygiene practices, report symptoms early, and seek medical care promptly to help curb the spread.
