Former First National Vice-Chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anita DeSoso, has raised serious concerns over alleged irregularities in recent political appointments, claiming that some positions may have been “sold” to individuals, including members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Madam DeSoso, the allegations have generated growing dissatisfaction among grassroots supporters of the NDC, many of whom feel sidelined despite their loyalty and sacrifices for the party over the years.
“It’s alleged that some appointments were sold to people, including NPP members, and the grassroots are not happy about it,” she stated, reflecting the frustrations reportedly brewing within sections of the party base.
Her comments highlight concerns about transparency, fairness, and reward systems within party structures. Grassroots members, who often serve as the backbone of political campaigns, expect recognition and inclusion when appointments are made. The perception that positions may have been influenced by financial considerations or awarded to individuals outside the party’s loyal base has reportedly deepened discontent.
Madam DeSoso emphasized the need for party leadership to address these allegations decisively to protect the integrity and unity of the NDC. She warned that failure to resolve such concerns could affect morale and weaken the party’s internal cohesion.
Political observers note that internal tensions over appointments are not uncommon within major political parties, particularly after elections or during transitions in governance. However, allegations involving the possible inclusion of members from rival political parties add a more contentious dimension to the issue.
As of now, there has been no official response from party leadership addressing the specific claims. It remains unclear whether any formal investigations or internal reviews will be conducted.
The development underscores the delicate balance political parties must maintain between broadening their appeal and maintaining the confidence of their core supporters. For many within the NDC’s grassroots network, transparency and loyalty remain central expectations in the distribution of appointments.
