The National Orchid Garden in Singapore has honoured President John Dramani Mahama with a newly named orchid hybrid, “Vanda John Dramani Mahama,” during his state visit to the country.
President John Dramani Mahama has been honoured in Singapore with a floral tribute that will forever etch his name into the nation’s celebrated horticultural tradition. During a tour of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, the National Orchid Garden unveiled a newly named orchid hybrid, “Vanda John Dramani Mahama,” in his honour.

The orchid now joins the prestigious “VIP Orchids” collection, a longstanding tradition of paying tribute to visiting heads of state, government leaders, and distinguished global figures. President Mahama, who signed the visitors’ book and received a detailed briefing on the Gardens’ history, expressed appreciation for the honour bestowed upon him.
Singapore’s orchid diplomacy is widely recognised as a symbol of friendship and goodwill. The practice not only reflects the country’s cultural heritage but also underscores its commitment to strengthening international partnerships.
With “Vanda John Dramani Mahama” now part of the Gardens, Ghana’s former president joins a distinguished list of world leaders who have been immortalised through this floral legacy, highlighting the deepening ties between Ghana and Singapore.
