Richard Nii Armah Quaye Foundation Donates GH₵500,000 To Combat Drug Abuse Among Ghanaian Youth

Businessman and philanthropist, Richard Nii Armah Quaye, through his foundation, has donated GH₵500,000 to the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment to support nationwide efforts to curb the growing menace of opioid abuse among the country’s youth.

The fight against the alarming abuse of opioids among Ghanaian youth has received a significant boost as the Richard Nii Armah Quaye Foundation has presented a cheque for GH₵500,000 to the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.

The donation, made at a brief ceremony in Accra, is aimed at funding public awareness campaigns, community sensitisation programmes, and rehabilitation support for young people struggling with substance abuse.

Presenting the cheque, Mr. Quaye, founder of the foundation, expressed deep concern over the rising trend of opioid misuse, which he described as a “silent destroyer” of Ghana’s future workforce.

He emphasised the urgent need for collective action to protect young people from falling victim to drug addiction.

“The youth are the engine of national development, and it is heartbreaking to see so many of them losing their potential to drugs. This is not just a government problem, it is a societal responsibility,” he said.

Receiving the donation, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, Hon. George Opare Addo expressed gratitude to the foundation for the timely support, promising that the funds will be used transparently and effectively to scale up anti-drug campaigns, particularly in high-risk communities.

She urged other corporate bodies and individuals to emulate the gesture, noting that the war against substance abuse can only be won through a united front involving all stakeholders.

The Richard Nii Armah Quaye Foundation, known for its philanthropic works in education, health, and youth development, has over the years championed several social initiatives aimed at improving lives and safeguarding the future of young Ghanaians.
