President Mahama Inaugurates GoldBod Taskforce With Stringent Accountability Measures

President John Dramani Mahama has launched the GoldBod Taskforce, a specialized unit tasked with enforcing gold trade regulations and cracking down on illegal gold mining and smuggling in Ghana.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the taskforce will operate under strict oversight, with all members required to wear body cameras during operations.

  • Body Cameras: All officers will wear body cameras to record their operations, promoting transparency and accountability.
  • GPS-Tracked Vehicles: Vehicles used by the taskforce will be equipped with GPS tracking systems, enabling real-time monitoring and route verification.
  • Written Authorization: No field mission will be undertaken without prior written authorization from the taskforce’s Chief Executive Officer.
  • Vetting and Training: Taskforce members have undergone extensive vetting, polygraph testing, and anti-corruption training to ensure their integrity and professionalism.

To encourage public participation in the fight against illegal gold mining and smuggling, President Mahama announced a reward system for whistleblowers.

Individuals who provide credible information leading to the recovery of illegal gold or cash equivalents will receive 10% of the seized assets as a reward.

The GoldBod Taskforce is expected to make a significant impact in curbing illegal gold mining and smuggling in Ghana.

With its stringent accountability measures and robust operational framework, the taskforce is well-equipped to promote transparency and professionalism in its operations.

The taskforce is set to begin full-scale operations in the coming weeks, marking a new era in Ghana’s fight against extractive sector malpractices.
