President John Dramani Mahama has declared a firm stance against cybercrime, vowing that Ghana will not be used as a breeding ground for online fraud, particularly romance scams.
At the official launch of the national cybersecurity awareness month in Accra today, President highlighted government’s ongoing collaboration with international partners to clamp down on cybercriminals operating across borders.

“We’ve been collaborating with our international partners. When evidence is gathered and it is proven that people are involved in romance scams, using our extradition treaties, we ship the culprits back,” he said.
Mr. Mahama reiterated that the crackdown will not discriminate based on nationality, assuring the public that both Ghanaians and foreigners will face justice if found culpable.
“So we will continue to collaborate with all our global partners. Anybody involved in romance scams, whether you are a foreigner or a Ghanaian citizen, we will hand you over to be tried,” he added.
The President’s remarks come amid growing concerns over the rise of online fraud, which has tarnished Ghana’s international reputation. His declaration signals a renewed government effort to safeguard the country’s digital space and protect victims of cybercrime worldwide.
