The La State Council has announced a ban on noise-making and funeral activities in the La Traditional Area, effective from Monday, August 11, 2025, to Friday, September 5, 2025.
The ban includes funerals and all funeral-related activities, and the council has cautioned against holding or facilitating such events during this period.
The ban affects the planned one-week celebration for the late legendary highlife music icon, Daddy Lumba, which was scheduled to take place in the La Traditional Area.
The La State Council has advised that the event be postponed, rescheduled, or canceled outright.
The La State Council has warned that there will be no compromises in enforcing this directive and that any individual or group that disregards the ban will face customary and lawful sanctions.
The council’s duty is to protect and preserve the rich cultural heritage and sacred traditions of the La people.
The La State Council expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the late Daddy Lumba and assures them of the council’s support at the appropriate time when the ban has been lifted.
