The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe, on Saturday, May 24 led a massive clean-up exercise at the Suhum Roundabout along the Accra-Kumasi highway, drawing hundreds of residents and stakeholders in a unified effort to combat sanitation challenges in the area.

The initiative, fully funded by the MP, formed part of a broader constituency-wide sanitation campaign aimed at addressing mounting waste management concerns.

Hon. Asiedu Bekoe, who also serves as the Deputy Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions, mobilized key stakeholders including clergy, Muslim leaders, chiefs, security agencies, assembly members, and representatives from various political parties.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Suhum, Hon. Lydia Ohenewaa Sarah, also took part in the exercise, commending the MP for his leadership and commitment to fostering a clean and healthy environment.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Bekoe urged residents to adopt a culture of discipline and communal responsibility in maintaining sanitation gains.

“Without collective effort and responsibility, our fight against filth will not succeed,” he stated.

He also called on the government to urgently finalize its agreement with waste management company Zoomlion or take alternative measures to curb the worsening sanitation situation, which he described as a serious threat to public health and the environment.

The overwhelming participation in the exercise highlighted strong community support for the MP’s proactive approach and set a promising tone for future citizen-led development initiatives in the constituency.
