The Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, Hon. Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, has raised concerns on the GH¢1.5 billion allocated to the agriculture sector in the 2025 budget, describing it as inadequate to drive meaningful growth and boost productivity for National stability.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the lawmaker emphasised the importance of the agriculture sector receiving a bigger allocation of funds to curb the importation of basic agricultural produce such as vegetables, onions and rice.
“Loans to actors in the agriculture value chain are often priced higher than other sectors, while many smallholder farmers and agribusinesses lack the traditional collateral demanded by financial institutions in the country”, he said.
Hon. Osei Mensah Dapaah argued that GH¢1.5 billion is inadequate to empower the agric sector to address the persistent food inflation, reduce import cost and boost productivity for national stability.
He added that a more substantial agricultural investment would create employment and encourage others to invest in agribusiness.
He reiterated that, since agriculture is the backbone of Ghana’s economy, the government should reconsider its budgetary priorities and allocate more resources to the sector to boost productivity for national stability.
