The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has reinforced government’s campaign against illegal mining with a GHS5 million cash donation and five Toyota Hilux pickups to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), in a move aimed at promoting responsible and sustainable mining.
Making the presentation, Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi Esq., reaffirmed the board’s dedication to preserving the environment and encouraging sustainable mining practices.
He noted that GoldBod’s intervention forms part of a broader effort to safeguard the ecological integrity of mining communities while strengthening legal frameworks for the sector.
“The Ghana Gold Board wants to buy more gold for purposes of foreign exchange generation for the country but the gold we buy, must be mined and sourced responsibly to create better value and in a manner that doesn’t undermine the sanctity of our environment.

Our collective survival as a people depends on the success of the fight against illegal mining, and so we cannot afford to fail,” he stressed.
Mr. Gyamfi added that while GoldBod remains committed to supporting miners who pursue legal and responsible practices, it would equally back NAIMOS in taking firm action against recalcitrant actors engaged in illegal activities.

He further disclosed upcoming initiatives, including measures to ensure value-chain traceability in gold trading, the formalization of small-scale mining, and the reclamation of 1,000 hectares of degraded forest reserves.
Receiving the donation, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, expressed profound gratitude to GoldBod for the timely support.
He described the gesture as a major boost to the government’s anti-“galamsey” efforts and reiterated government’s resolve to sustain the fight.
“Government will not relent but will continue the fight against the galamsey menace until our devastated forests are restored and our polluted water bodies turned blue again,” the Minister assured.
The donation marks another step in aligning Ghana’s gold sector with global best practices while reinforcing the national crusade against illegal mining.
