Former Finance Minister Ken. Ofori-Atta To Miss OSP Appearance Due To Health Issues

Kenneth Ofori-Atta, the former Finance Minister of Ghana, will not be appearing before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) today as originally scheduled.

Sources close to Ofori-Atta have confirmed that he is currently unable to be physically present in Ghana due to an unexpected deterioration in his health.

Frank Davies, a representative for Ofori-Atta, stated that this development has been officially communicated to the OSP by the former minister’s legal team, which provided accompanying medical reports detailing his condition.

This information has also been shared with the Human Rights Court, which is currently overseeing a legal challenge brought by Ofori-Atta.

Over the weekend, various media outlets speculated that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng might consider declaring Ofori-Atta wanted again if he fails to appear.

However, Davies emphasized that given the current medical circumstances and ongoing legal proceedings, such an action would be highly irregular.

Ofori-Atta is challenging the legality of the OSP’s initial declaration of him as a wanted person through a suit filed at the Human Rights Court.

The court has scheduled June 18, 2025, for a ruling on this matter. The OSP acknowledged this legal challenge in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on May 28, confirming that the Human Rights Court had adjourned the case for deliberation.

As developments unfold regarding this high-profile case, both legal teams and observers await the upcoming court ruling that could significantly impact Ofori-Atta’s situation and the ongoing investigation by the OSP.
