The four-day royal funeral, known as Doteyie in Asante tradition, will run until Thursday, September 18, 2025, marking the end of a significant chapter in the Asante Kingdom’s rich history The ceremony represents one of the most important cultural events in Ghana’s traditional calendar, befitting the status of the second most powerful person in Asanteman after the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Thousands of mourners, including traditional leaders, government officials, and ordinary citizens, thronged the palace grounds to pay their final respects to the revered queen mother, creating scenes of both mourning and celebration of a life well-lived.
The late Asantehemaa, who passed away on August 7, 2025, was widely respected for her unwavering loyalty, wise counsel, strength, and devotion to preserving Asante traditions.
President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed his official attendance at the funeral, following a formal invitation from the Asantehene delivered by a delegation led by Amoamanhene Nana Agyenim Boateng I.

All schools, banks, shops, markets, and commercial centers in the Kumasi Metropolis have been ordered to remain closed on the final day, Thursday, September 18, to allow maximum participation in the concluding ceremonies.
Health authorities have deployed mobile medical clinics throughout the funeral grounds to manage any emergencies that may arise during the massive gathering.
The proactive healthcare measures reflect the palace’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of all attendees throughout the four-day period.
