Cambridge Conference: Dr. Bawumia Challenges Youth To Shape Africa’s Economic Future

Last Saturday, the University of Cambridge was the backdrop for the 2025 African Business Conference, where Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Former Ghana’s Vice President, shared his visionary insights with a gathering of African students focused on economic emancipation for the continent.

In his address, Dr. Bawumia encouraged attendees to embrace their roles as change agents who can project Africa’s potential beyond its borders.

He emphasized the importance of adopting a can-do spirit and leveraging the current digital revolution to create transformative systems that will benefit the continent.

He noted that while Africa is rich in innovation, it struggles with a lack of scalable systems to support these advancements. “We do not lack ideas; we lack ecosystems that reward and retain them,” he stated.

He further highlighted that despite the continent’s ambition, barriers such as limited access to capital, infrastructure, and trust continue to impede progress.

He painted an inspiring vision of Africa’s future: “Imagine a tech start-up in Nairobi serving clients in São Paulo or a shea butter cooperative in Tamale selling directly to buyers in Tokyo through blockchain traceability.”

His message resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the idea that Africa’s innovations should not be seen as exceptions but as norms.

Dr. Bawumia concluded with a powerful call to action, urging participants to forge Africa’s digital future deliberately and boldly together.

The conference left attendees motivated to harness their skills and knowledge for the greater good of Africa, embodying the spirit of progress necessary for the continent’s next chapter.
