“Be Intentional About Your Career Growth” – Dr. Irene Stella Agyenim-Boateng Urges Women

The Vice Chairperson of the Public Services Commission, Dr. Irene Stella Agyenim-Boateng, has called on women to take deliberate steps toward advancing their careers, emphasizing that professional growth requires personal initiative and determination.

Speaking as a guest speaker during the International Women’s Day celebration themed “Women Give Out; Women Give to Yourselves”– organized by the Ladies in Parliamentary Service and the Women’s Caucus in Parliament, Dr. Agyenim-Boateng highlighted the importance of intentional career development, particularly for women navigating professional spaces.

The astute human resource manager and leadership development consultant, Dr. Agyenim-Boateng stressed that women must be proactive in shaping their career paths rather than waiting for opportunities to be handed to them.

“Be intentional about your career growth, nobody will do it for you,” she advised. “You are responsible for your own relevance, so create it.”

According to her, the journey toward career and personal development demands consistent effort, self-awareness, and strategic planning. She noted that while institutional support and mentorship are valuable, the ultimate responsibility for career advancement lies with the individual.

Dr. Agyenim-Boateng explained that many women possess the talent and capability to excel but often hesitate to pursue opportunities or advocate for themselves. She encouraged women to invest in continuous learning, build professional networks, and confidently pursue leadership roles.

She further emphasized that recognition in the workplace is often tied to visibility, competence, and commitment. Therefore, women must be willing to go the extra mile, demonstrate their skills, and actively position themselves for growth.

Her remarks also highlighted the broader significance of women’s empowerment in national development. By equipping themselves with the right skills and mindset, she noted, women can contribute meaningfully to decision-making processes and leadership across various sectors.

The event, held to commemorate International Women’s Day, brought together female professionals within parliamentary service to reflect on progress made in advancing women’s participation in leadership while discussing strategies to overcome persistent barriers.

Dr. Agyenim-Boateng concluded by reminding participants that career success does not happen by chance but through deliberate effort and purposeful action.
