The Asuogyaman NCCE has appealed to Ghanaian youth to renew their commitment in safeguarding the nation’s democracy by promoting peace, unity and cohesion.
As part of the Commission’s 2025 Annual Constitution Week Celebration, the district office engaged okada riders, aboloo sellers, driver unions, butcher’s association and some faith-based organizations with their civic education message under the theme “Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility”.
Mr. Alexander Yiadom Boakye (Asuogyaman NCCE Director), throughout these visits clarified that democracy does not end with casting of ballots, but requires continuous efforts to nurture peace, tolerance and the ability of citizens to live and work together in unity.
He further called on every Ghanaian to promote a culture of dialogue, understanding and reconciliation in their day-day activities.
During an engagement with Old-Combine mosque members, Abdulai Mohammed, Youth Leader of the Muslim community admonished that the youth should never wish to use violence or unlawful acts to make demands.
According to him, most Ghanaians are tempted to call for military regime because of how some duty bearers or politicians hide under democracy to perpetrate crimes without been brought to book, thereby cautioning all stakeholders to make the 1992 Constitution of Ghana a working-document devoid of discrimination.
“I recall a day during the coup era, when I was brutally forced to go and sleep against my will by some gun-men. It is not a good memory I will wished for anyone to experience but the 1992 Constitution should also not be selectively used”, he affirmed.
In a focus-group discussion with participants at David Ocloo auto-mechanics shop at Ankyease, Mr. Francis Matey said the 1992 Constitution encourages citizens of Ghana to uphold and defend the Constitution and to foster national unity and live in harmony with others.
He added that in contributing to nation-building, Ghanaians are to satisfy their tax obligations in their lawfully chosen occupation.
Notable among the places visited were; Quarters and Senchi Junction Okada Riders, Divine Touch Stiches-Dzidzokokpe, Bell Unity Fashion-Ghanakpe and Aboloo sellers-Atimpoku.
Other Asuogyaman NCCE officers involved in these field outreaches include Mr. Prosper Swanzy, Ms. Emelda Amankwa and Mr. Joel Sam.
