The Ashanti Green Initiative, under the leadership of Oheneba Kwaku Duah, officially launched the three-day Mining In Motion Summit on June 2, 2025, uniting government officials, global mining executives, and industry experts to spotlight investment opportunities in Ghana’s artisanal gold mining sector and advocate for sustainable practices.
Kumasi, Ghana. The inaugural Mining In Motion Summit, organized by the Ashanti Green Initiative (AGI), opened to high acclaim on June 2, 2025, drawing prominent stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to address the future of artisanal gold mining in Ghana.
The event was spearheaded by Oheneba Nana Kwaku Duah, Managing Director of AGI and member of the Ashanti royal family, who underscored the initiative’s mission to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship.
The summit’s first day featured distinguished speakers, including Ghana’s President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and H.E. Wamkele Keabetswe Mene, Secretary-General of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Hon. Emmanuel Buah, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, also took the stage, highlighting Ghana’s regulatory and developmental roadmap for small-scale mining.
The keynote address was delivered by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the revered Asantehene, who called for a unified commitment to sustainable mining.
“Our gold wealth must not come at the cost of our environment,” he stated. “It is imperative we invest in green technologies and responsible practices to safeguard our land and future generations.”
The summit aims to foster strategic partnerships and promote eco-friendly innovations in artisanal mining.
Over the next two days, attendees will participate in panels, technical workshops, and investment dialogues designed to transform Ghana’s gold sector into a model for green, inclusive growth.
