Despite not having formal education, she was a successful cocoa farmer and a strong advocate for women’s empowerment.
Throughout her political career, Donkor faced several challenges, including disqualification from presidential elections in 2012 and 2016.
However, she remained resilient and continued to fight for her vision. In 2020, she was among the three women presidential candidates cleared to contest the presidential elections, where she came fifth out of 12 candidates.
Donkor’s campaign promises included free education from primary to secondary level, erasing import taxes and establishing a free zone at the port of Tema to attract more businesses.
She drew inspiration from Muammar Gaddafi, the former Libyan leader, and believed that Ghana should refine its own resources, especially oil.
The Ghanaian politician had announced Roman Fada — a popular broadcast journalist as her running mate for the 2024 general election and had successfully filed her nomination to contest the presidential elections.
Her passing comes just 37 days before the elections, leaving a void in the political landscape.
