In a candid statement, Radio and events music selector, Obed Cephas Cudjoe widely known as Dj Xtra Global has shed light on the often-overlooked contributions of DJs in the Ghana music industry.
In a discussion on Accra based Breeze Fm, Xtra DJ Global who currently works for Atinka Fm and Atinka Television mentioned that, in Ghana, majority of musicians hardly think of DJs until they released new song and needs airplay.
“Many artistes don’t value DJs until they release a new song and suddenly need airplay. Beyond that, the industry rarely gives us the respect we deserve.” he said
This sentiment highlights the interconnected nature of music musicians and DJs — the crucial role DJs play in promoting music and the lack of recognition they often receive.
DJs are the gatekeepers of music, introducing new tracks and artists to the masses. They work tirelessly behind the scenes, selecting songs, creating playlists, and entertaining audiences.
Arguably, without DJs, many artistes would struggle to reach a wider audience.
On the show DJ Xtra Global and other colleagues on the show narrated how they have supported many of the top musicians in the country but have turned their back on them.
Despite their outstanding contributions, they often find themselves underappreciated and overlooked.
The industry’s lack of respect for DJs is evident in the limited recognition and compensation they receive.
Dj Xtra Global’s statement serves as a call to action for the music industry to reevaluate the role of DJs.
By acknowledging their contributions and providing fair recognition and compensation, the industry can work towards a more equitable relationship between artists and DJs.
It’s time for the industry to recognize their value and provide the respect they deserve. By doing so, we can create a more balanced and fair music ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders.
