National Film Authority Hosts “Film Dialogue” To Accelerate Development.

Yesterday, the National Film Authority (NFA) hosted the National Film Dialogue at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana to discuss future of the Ghana movie industry.

The event brought together industry stakeholders, including filmmakers, producers, distributors, policymakers, and academics, to discuss the future of Ghana’s film industry.

Under the theme “Accelerating Industry Development,” the dialogue aimed to address key challenges hindering the growth of Ghana’s film sector.

Veteran filmmaker Abdul Salam Mumuni highlighted one of the major issues: the poor quality of movies premiering in Ghanaian cinemas. “The lack of regulation has led to substandard productions dominating the big screen, driving audiences away,” Mumuni noted.

He suggested that cinemas should play a role in selecting the number of movies released to maintain quality control.

NFA Chief Executive Officer Kafui Danku emphasized the importance of collaboration in building a thriving creative economy. “We need to work together to create a vibrant, connected, and globally competitive film industry that showcases Ghana’s rich culture and creativity,” Danku said.

The dialogue also touched on other pressing issues, including limited funding, inadequate training, and stiff competition from global content.

Industry stakeholders agreed that innovative solutions and policy support are necessary to overcome these challenges.

The National Film Dialogue marks a significant step towards reshaping the future of Ghanaian cinema. By tackling hot topics like film financing, digital platforms, and audience engagement, the industry stakeholders aim to create a thriving film sector that showcases Ghana’s rich culture and creativity to the world.

As the film industry continues to evolve, the National Film Dialogue serves as a platform for stakeholders to come together and drive growth, innovation, and excellence in Ghana’s film sector.

With the right support and collaboration, Ghana’s film industry has the potential to become a major player in the global entertainment market.
