South African Local television and radio personality, Carol Ofori has announced that she will be starring in an upcoming episode of ‘Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire’ – an action-packed Disney+ original animated anthology which draws on the continent’s rich and diverse histories and cultures.
The series will present 10 sci-fi and fantasy stories featuring bold and brave new worlds of advanced technology, aliens, spirits, and monsters.
The anthology tells stories from creators hailing from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe, ‘Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire’ promises to take viewers on an unforgettable ride into Africa’s future, presenting visions of the continent as never before seen.
Carol stars in an episode titled ‘Mkhuzi: The Spirit Racer’ and plays the role of titular character Mkhuzi. In this episode, we meet Manzo – a half-human, half-alien teenager played by Nasty C who dreams of becoming a superstar racer like his mother, the legendary masked racer Mkhuzi.
Always struggling to reconcile his Zulu heritage with his alien blood, Manzo is outraged when aliens threaten to destroy his Soweto neighbourhood and his injured mother challenges her old nemesis Ogun, an alien overlord, to a re-match he knows she won’t survive. Manzo takes the mask for himself and joins the epic race with everything he loves at stake.
“I am very excited to be a part of this Disney+ production. The fact that talent from the whole African continent is involved makes me so proud,” Carol Ofori shares. “I’ve always wanted to create content for Africans, African children and for the world to consume our content as Africans so I am so happy to be contributing even more in this amazing animation series – and I hope it’s the first of many exciting projects from Disney+ that shines a light on Africa and its talent.”
This particular episode is directed by Simangaliso ‘Panda’ Sibaya and Malcom Wope and animated by Triggerfish, Africa’s leading animation studio.
‘Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire’ is executive produced by Peter Ramsey (co-director of the Oscar®-winning ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’), alongside Tendayi Nyeke and Anthony Silverston from Triggerfish, the lead studio on this anthology.
Other local celebrities lending their voices to this project include Pearl Thusi, Nasty C, Tumi Morake, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Lillian Dube, Gigi Lamayne, Candice Modiselle and more.
‘Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire’ will debut globally on 5 July 2023, exclusively on Disney+.
