On Thursday, June 12, Air India Flight AI 171, a Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner (registration VT‑ANB), tragically crashed shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The flight was headed to London Gatwick when it lost contact with air traffic control just moments after departure at around 13:38 IST.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion followed by a fireball and thick black smoke as the aircraft fell into the Meghani Nagar neighborhood near the airport.

There were 242 people on board, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members, and initial reports suggest there may be around 50 fatalities.
In response to the crash, Ahmedabad airport has suspended all operations. Emergency response teams, including fire brigades and personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are actively engaged in rescue efforts.
