The Chief of Ashaiman, Nii Annang Adzor III, has voiced strong frustration over what he described as prolonged neglect in the constituency by the government in spite of its political history and loyalty to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, the constituency’s political significance has not been rendered into substantial infrastructural development while the residents continue to struggle with underdevelopment.
Nii Adzor III noted that Ashaiman, with a population close to 300,000, is widely known as one of the NDC’s strongholds and has consistently delivered electoral success for the party over the years.
Speaking to bloggers and journalists at his palace on Monday, he quizzed why Ashaiman, with its loyal constituents, has been sidelined in terms of development, adding that they, as chiefs, have little to do in terms of development.
He expressed specific worry about the deplorable nature of road networks in the constituency, stating emphatically that they are severely devastated after years without rehabilitation.
“We all can bear witness that Ashaiman has shown more than 100 percent commitment to the NDC. We as chiefs have little to do in terms of development when it comes to the roads in Ashaiman. We have been following, and before the 2024 general elections, I did a lot of advocacy on roads, because when you ascertain the development of Ashaiman, it seems the NDC, which the people of Ashaiman have commitment to, has ignored the plights of the people unless elections are due,” Nii Adzor III stated.
“We have to make it clear to the people of Ashaiman that from the year 1992, the constituency has been one of the backbones of the NDC government, and what have we gotten in return? When you take roads out of all the infrastructure development, you have not done anything, and construction is the leading development priority in the world. It’s not about structures, but roads and proper drainage systems, and we can’t boast of them in Ashaiman,” Nii Adzor III added.
He pleaded with the government to urgently address the constituency’s development plights, especially the road construction, stressing that he has engaged the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Freeman Tsekpo, who has assured him of steady progress and improvement on the road system.
“I have engaged the MCE, and he assured me the first phase is to build drainage systems and gravel works, and then the bitumen follows.” He concluded.
