Former National Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anita De Sosoo, has expressed optimism about the future leadership of the party, stating that members would be delighted if Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang eventually contests to lead the NDC.
According to Madam De Sosoo on Atinka TV, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang possesses the experience, competence, and integrity required to steer the party to greater heights. She described the Vice President as a unifying figure whose political journey and public service record make her a strong potential leader for the party in the years ahead.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who currently serves as Ghana’s Vice President, has long been regarded as one of the leading intellectuals and respected voices within the NDC. Before venturing into frontline politics, she built a distinguished career in academia and public service, including serving as Minister for Education. Her elevation to the vice presidency marked a historic moment, reinforcing her status as a trailblazer for women in Ghanaian politics.
Madam De Sosoo emphasized that leadership within the NDC has always been determined by the democratic will of party delegates and structures. However, she noted that should Prof. Opoku-Agyemang decide to contest for the flagbearer position in the future, many within the party’s women’s wing and grassroots base would welcome the move.

“She has paid her dues, she understands the party’s ideology, and she has demonstrated commitment to national development,” De Sosoo indicated, adding that the NDC continues to value inclusivity and internal democracy in choosing its leaders.
Political analysts suggest that discussions about future leadership within the NDC reflect broader conversations about generational transition and gender representation in Ghanaian politics. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s potential bid, if it materializes, would likely energize sections of the party and attract significant national attention.
While no official declaration has been made by the Vice President regarding any future leadership ambition within the NDC, the endorsement signals growing confidence among some party stalwarts in her capacity to lead.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, attention will remain on key figures within the NDC and how the party positions itself for the future.
